New (Kiln Dried) Scaffold Board - Standard - 225mm width

New Kiln Dried Standard Scaffold Boards – 225mm x 38mm

These are our go‑to new scaffold boards for makers, joiners and DIYers who want clean, consistent timber that’s ready for serious projects.
Every board in this collection is:
  • Brand new – no site wear, no paint, no metalwork
  • Standard size – approx. 225mm wide x 38mm thick
  • Kiln dried to around 8–12% moisture – far more stable than standard construction boards
  • Ideal for furniture, shelving, desks, worktops, panelling and other indoor projects where movement and cracking need to be kept to a minimum
If you’re looking for reclaimed boards with more rustic character, or other sizes (narrow, chunky, jointed), you can view our full range of scaffold boards on the main Scaffold Boards page.

Which finish should I choose – Unsanded, Sanded or Special?

Within this kiln‑dried standard range you’ll see three main finish levels:
  • UNSANDED
    • Raw, straight from the mill
    • Best if you want to do your own sanding and finishing, or you’re using the boards in ways where a rougher surface is fine
  • SANDED
    • Smoothed and much nicer to the touch
    • Perfect for shelving, desks, tables and visible joinery where you’ll add your own oil, wax or varnish
  • SPECIAL
    • Our premium finishes, including flame‑torched (charred) and coloured/stained options
    • Ideal when you want a ready‑to‑use, statement finish with maximum depth and character
Each product page in this collection explains the exact finish options and shows close‑up photos so you can see the difference before you buy.

What are these boards best used for?

Because they’re new and kiln dried, these boards are especially suited to:
  • Dining tables, desks and benches
  • Kitchen worktops and islands (with suitable sealing/finishing)
  • Floating shelves and alcove shelving
  • Wardrobe and utility shelving
  • Wall cladding and panelling
  • Built‑in furniture and joinery projects
They still retain the character of real scaffold timber, but with the extra stability and consistency makers need.

New (Kiln Dried) Scaffold Board - Standard - 225mm width FAQ's

These boards are:
Brand new, not reclaimed – so they’re cleaner and more consistent
Standard scaffold size – approx. 225mm wide x 38mm thick
Kiln dried to around 8–12% moisture, which makes them more stable and less likely to twist, crack or shrink compared to non–kiln‑dried boards
That combination makes them especially suitable for furniture, shelving, worktops and joinery, not just construction.

You can use them outdoors, but there are a few things to keep in mind:
Being kiln dried helps with stability, but all softwood will still move and weather outside
For outdoor use, always:
Use a suitable exterior wood treatment (oil, stain or paint)
Re‑treat periodically, as recommended by the product manufacturer
Allow for some natural movement, hairline cracks and colour change over time
If your project is purely landscaping or very heavy‑duty outdoor use, our non–kiln‑dried or reclaimed boards can also be a good option.

We hand‑select boards that are:
Straight and true enough for furniture and shelving use
Within normal tolerances for width and thickness for scaffold timber (approx. 225mm x 38mm)
As with any natural wood product, there can be slight variation in colour, grain and minor knots, but these boards are much more uniform and predictable than reclaimed options.

Absolutely. If you’re unsure whether to choose:
Kiln dried vs non–kiln‑dried
New vs reclaimed
Unsanded vs sanded vs special finish
Just drop us an email at hello@thescaffshop.com with a quick description of your project (what you’re building, where it will be used, and rough sizes), and we’ll happily point you to the best option – including suggesting samples if that helps.

For most indoor projects we recommend:
Light sanding (if you’ve chosen unsanded or want an extra‑smooth finish)
Applying a good quality oil, wax or varnish suitable for your use (e.g. worktop oil for kitchen surfaces)
Wiping up spills promptly and avoiding standing water
Re‑oiling or re‑waxing periodically, depending on wear and the product used
This will help protect the timber, bring out the grain and keep your boards looking great for years.
