Samples – Test Our Timber, Finishes and Board Types First

Planning shelves, a desk, a kitchen worktop or cladding, but not quite sure which board or finish to choose?
Our Samples collection lets you see, feel and test our timber in real life before you commit to a full order.
Here you’ll find small, affordable samples of:
  • Scaffold boards – Standard, Narrow and Chunky, in both reclaimed and new
  • Pallet wood – 100mm wide boards for smaller projects and feature walls
  • Cladding battens – cut from our reclaimed scaffold boards for exterior and interior cladding projects
  • Scaffold tubes in all of our sizes available
Every sample is taken from the same stock we use, so you can confidently choose the look, size and finish that’s right for your project.

Why start with samples?

Ordering a few samples is the easiest way to:
  • Compare reclaimed vs new timber side by side
  • Decide between Standard, Narrow and Chunky board sizes
  • See our different finishes in person – from unsanded and sanded through to special flame‑torched and coloured options
  • Match timber to your existing kitchen, flooring, tiles or furniture
  • Test oils, waxes and stains on a small piece before treating a full run of boards
A small spend on samples can save you from ordering the wrong finish or thickness, and gives you confidence before you place a larger order.

How to choose and use your samples

  1. Pick the sample type that matches your project:
    • Building shelves, desks or worktops? Start with Standard or Chunky Scaffold Board Samples.
    • Creating a feature wall or smaller project? Try Narrow or Pallet Wood Samples.
    • Planning cladding? Choose the Cladding Battens Sample.
  2. When your samples arrive, you can:
    • Place them in the room to see them in your natural light
    • Hold them against walls, cabinets, tiles and floors
    • Lightly sand or apply test coats of oil, wax or stain
  3. Once you’re happy, head to the matching board or cladding collection and order your full lengths with confidence.

Our product samples are available for £0.99-£1.99 each, making it very affordable to test different finishes and board types before committing to a larger order. This small investment can save you from ordering the wrong finish for your project and gives you confidence in your choice.

Our samples are cut from the same boards we sell, so they're completely representative of the quality, texture, and finish you'll receive with your full order. While they're smaller pieces for practical shipping purposes, they give you an accurate feel for the weight, grain, and surface finish of our scaffold boards.

We offer samples of our scaffold boards / Pallet wood / Scaffold tube in various finishes so you can see and feel the quality before making your full purchase. Our samples showcase different surface finishes including unsanded (original rough), hand sanded, machine sanded, and special finishes like flame-torched and colored dyes. This helps you choose the perfect finish for your project and ensures you're completely happy with the look and feel.

Yes! If you're considering one of our special finishes like our charred and coloured finishes, we can provide samples of these too. This is especially helpful for our more labour-intensive finishes so you can see exactly how they'll look in your space before placing your full order.
As you checkout you can leave a note to seller explaining the colour you would like.

Like everything here at The Scaff Shop we handmake everything to order. We do try to keep ahead of orders and do have a batch ready to go, but depending on how busy the shop is, it will be between 2-7 working days.
